A Summer Prayer

It’s been a long, hot summer and the world feels out of kilter. I make a conscious effort to remember how sacred life is and to connect to what matters every day. So here I’m sharing a sample of a way to start my mornings that helps me remember who I am and why I’m here.

A Summer Prayer

Upon awakening, while still cozy, I take a deep breath and pray, “thank you for another day.”  While continuing to breathe deeply, I fill myself with Spirit, knowing that I am blessed.

Upon arising, I go outside and greet the day. I look to the sky, sun, clouds, birds and trees, and greet them. I take in the whispering wind, the warmth of the sun, the chirping of birds, or the drizzle and dew.

I sit a bit and absorb the energy, the stillness, the sounds—all the while filling my heart with gratitude and love and I silently whisper: “Mother/Father God, Holy Spirit, Guardian Angels and Guides, and all those unnamed who love and support me in Spirit, thank you for this day.

Thank you for my life and all I hold dear. For all that I have—Catherine and our pussycat, our home, our health, the means to live. Thank you for my beautiful, trusting friends who love and support me.  Thank you for my many gifts and talents, and the ability to learn and grow each day. Thank you for those I am still to meet on my journey.

I ask for your guidance and support and give you permission to override any of my thoughts and actions, when you know that they are not for my highest good. Help me to keep an open heart and show kindness towards in all situations and encounters I will experience today. Spirit, be with me and guide me to right and loving actions, thoughts, and decisions. May I speak only words of peace.

Mother/Father God, Holy Spirit, Guardian Angels and Guides, thank you for being a part of my life. I know that I am a spark of the divine, one with the godhead, and I strive to spend my time living and working in light and love for the good of us all.
